The inspiration for this piece comes from the Spanish phrase “dar a luz,” which translates to “give birth” but translates literally in English as “to give light.” The play on language challenges the viewer to ponder questions such as “what will I create?”, “what will I nurture?” “what will I illuminate?”. The piece Is intended to conjure maternal energy to help the community heal from the enormous collective loss and suffering of 2020.
